Welcome to the inaugural Flag Keeper Election! Section 4.1 of the new Black Flag DAO Codex provides for the establishment of a Flag Keeper Council, comprising seven Flag Bearers.
These Council members, known as Flag Keepers, are responsible for stewarding the DAO’s operations. In practice, this includes, but is not limited to, signing multisig transactions, managing tooling, and appointing members to community roles.
The Flag Keeper role will require consistent attention by every person elected to the position. Tasks such as monitoring membership applications and role allocation, responding to queries in Discord, signing transactions efficiently, setting up Snapshot votes with correct eligibility, and continuing our social media presence will be among the responsibilities of this Council. Please don’t self-nominate if you’re not willing and able to be present and accountable to the community.
Flag Keeper Election Procedures
Flag Bearers who wish to be Flag Keepers must self nominate as a reply to this Forum post. In your reply, please include your Discord handle and a short statement on why you want to be a Flag Keeper. While only Flag Bearers can vote for Flag Keepers on Snapshot, all Black Flag DAO members may provide feedback on Forum.
Nominations will be open for exactly seven days. After that time, a Snapshot vote will be held. Flag Keeper seats will be filled in order of most votes received. In the event of a tie, there shall be a runoff between those members. The overall vote must meet a quorum of 40% of eligible voters.
At the conclusion of the Flag Keeper election, the Transition Council will dissolve, but its members will be available to aid in transitioning authority to the Flag Keeper Council.
I know it says self nominate; I also know I’d love to nominate myself, but my work is killing my ability to be around during community calls (case in point what happened the week before last) so I would not be able to give it justice.
But I’d be interested in seeing a few people that could fill the role.
You can encourage any Flag Bearers to run as a candidate, however, there is a reason why they must self-nominate.
A candidate must write a candidate statement on why they want to run for the role as Flag Keeper, and by self-nominating, they are agreeing to the responsibilities of the role as well as the requirements which are, that they are willing to be present and accountable to the community.
The Codex states that any Flag Bearer may self-nominate for a Flag Keeper role, and that would apply to any Transition Council member if they hold the Flag Bearer membership role. The Transition Council is not a membership role type, but rather a operational unit, and with the conclusion of the Flag Keeper election on Snapshot, the TC will dissolve.
Thank you for this new achievement, it’s our DAO now waking up. Is this going to be remunerated?. Because we maybe need to add some discussion about their salary and boundaries of their decisions.
Best
If you are referring to the role of Flag Keepers, like any role in the DAO, these are all volunteer positions, and are not a paid role. Regarding the boundaries of Flag Keeper decisions, these are covered in the Codex as well as any operating procedures that the Flag Keepers may create.
I’d like to be a Flag Keeper. Having been an integral member of the Transition Council and a long time contributor to the DAO, I’d be honoured to continue supporting our community. My Discord name is trewkat.
I am throwing my hat in the ring, as I would like to be a Flag Keeper. I currently serve the DAO as a member of the Transition Council, and I want to continue to support and give back to the community that I love.
I am deeply committed to fulfilling all the duties of the Flag Keeper with the upmost integrity and thoughtfulness, to protect the DAO, our infrastructure and our community membership. I also pledge to remain present and accountable for all my actions, to this community.
Hi everyone! I’m TheThriller on Discord too, and I am self-nominating for Flag Keeper.
I’ve been a member of the DAO since December 2021 and officially joined in April 2022. My active participation significantly ramped up in November 2023, amidst the drama involving BanklessHQ.
Since that pivotal moment, I’ve consistently participated in governance & community calls, community discussions on Discord and Discourse, and provided detailed feedback on essential proposals and documents like our new Codex. My involvement is driven by my commitment to ensuring that our DAO has the opportunity to thrive by having transparent, consistent, and effective governance.
As Flag Keeper, I will:
Ensure responsiveness and availability for essential tasks, including multisig transactions, membership management, and Snapshot votes.
Prioritize impartial decision-making, relying on governing documents, historical context, established best practices, and personal experience from similar situations.
Continue to engage openly and actively in community discussions, sharing my full perspectives and insights to advance our shared goals.
In summary, my dedication to the DAO, coupled with my recent active participation and my personal experiences in governance, make me prepared to fulfill the responsibilities of a Flag Keeper.
Hi everyone. May I ask Flag Keepers, once elected, to bring Treasury Management into the Codex as a matter of priority.
Just before the HQ drama, I was working in bDAO, the PM Guild, on ways to bring positive financial outcomes to Guilds, typically through generative products or services. I’m keen to see an allied approach applied in BFD, to support longevity.
Once the wider W3 population can see what BFD are doing, and that they are pairs of “safe hands”, I think interest will pick up again.
This thread is for nominations.
If you would like to explain what you mean, or what you believe is missing from the Codex, please go to Community Review: Black Flag DAO Codex Version 1 - #17 by trewkat
and add it there, noting that the review period has closed and you are not yet a member of the DAO.
I’d like to self nominate as a Flag keeper. I’ve been a member of the DAO since 2022, I’m passionate about sharing the benefits of web3 with the world, specially the Spanish speaking part of it.
My life has changed quiet a bit lately, but even though my time availability is tight, I’d like to keep supporting the DAO that has made amazing projects possible.
Raising the Black Flag of financial freedom and financial inclusion
Hello BFD, I would like to self nominate as a Flag Keeper.
I’m a Genesis member of the DAO and I’ve been involved in a variety of capacities. Although I’ve been relatively inactive for a while now, I am highly passionate about this community, our people, and our longevity.
I looking forward to the chance of working alongside our fellow Flag Keepers!
Hey everyone,
I’m throwing my hat in the ring (or should I say, raising my flag?) to be a Flag Keeper under our new structure. Adding a bit of context below for some history. My Discord handle is droste_effect.
I’ve been with BanklessDAO since day one on May 4, 2021. In July that year, I stepped up as guild coordinator at the request of a few folks and was elected for two seasons.
I produced audio and video content for Bankless Academy (back when it was the Onboard project) and helped kick off the Podcast Hatchery project. It was there that the Making Bank podcast was hatched (thank you Soundman). Since February 2022, we’ve shipped 53 episodes showcasing our people, projects, and occasionally partners. I say “we” because it started as a decentralized project prior to the brand fiasco. Thank YOU to everyone who’s been on the show.
My strengths include communication, attention to detail, tool exposure & usage, and I’ve been a multisig signer and guild treasurer. I can definitely improve on timeliness, as evidenced by this very late entry into the elections
GM BFD, I would like to self nominate as a Flag Keeper.
I have been part of banklessdao since season 0 in 2021. I was involved in stewarding various DAO groups such as the International Media Nodes project, Governance Department, Grants Committiee.
Ever since I got into DAOs, I have been fascinated by them, so much so, that I work as a professional delegate in several top DAOs today. I aim to bring this expertise in DAO governance to the BFD and help it Live Long and Prosper
As you vote for Flag Keepers entrusted with stewardship, I urge you to choose individuals who have consistently model transparency, honor community-agreed processes, prioritize open and collaborative communication, and value collective decision-making. This will rebuild trust, strengthen the renewed mission, and ensure this community thrives.
A note on jengajojo as a candidate
Through his actions, jengajojo has demonstrated to be an individual who cannot be trusted. He has a history of ignoring community consensus, conniving and rugging members of the community. His actions have fractured the community, creating a divide that persists to this day. As a result, I and a group of others have hesitated to join BFD, feeling deeply betrayed and unsafe . He damaged the 2 core assets of this community - Trust & Vibe. His action have created an environment where Trust is doubted, and the vibrant energy(vibe) that once defined us has been extinguished for some of us.
We understand that the community collectively opposed jengajojo and the MS, and it’s the only hope we are holding on to, that a new set of stewards will be elected who embody the true spirit of stewardship in words and deeds, in a true BlagFlagDAO style. Individuals capable of keeping the flag of this new community. - We just want you to know that jengajojo is not such an individual.
If you are wondering why jengajojo is a detriment to the Trust x Vibe of this community. Feel free to check his nefarious actions & the community response here.
I completely agree with thinkDecade. Jengajojo has consistently demonstrated behavior that undermines community trust and consensus. His past actions—particularly a decision that negatively influenced key multisig signers—have had serious consequences, including reputational damage to the community and its members. Given this track record, I believe it would be unwise to consider him for any stewardship role. I strongly encourage the community to oppose his nomination.
