From us (thinkDecade, Estha, Kutubu, Scar, studio07, cyclist and all others affected) to Flag Keepers
Dear Flag Keepers, congratulations on being elected to steward the BlagFlagDAO community.
We come to you today to present a reminder about the unresolved matter of Projects and community Members not getting rightfully paid for fulfilling their promise under the Optimism Campaign. This situation, concerning projects and individual members alike who diligently fulfilled their commitments, regrettably escalated beyond its initial scope, evolving into a matter that the community resoundingly deemed unjust. The collective will to rectify this inequity was clearly demonstrated through a decisive community vote. However, the preceding Multi-Sig Signers unfortunately chose not to honor this clear expression of community consensus.
During the last governance call that addressed this matter, a proposed solution was to wait for new MS to resolve this. With the new MS now in place, we believe it is a good time to address and resolve this matter.
We believe that elected Flag Keepers are well familiar with this matter and Your leadership in addressing it will be a defining moment in your stewardship, and we eagerly await your decisive action to bring about a just and equitable resolution.
We are available and open to further collaborating in any way necessary to resolve this matter.
None of you chose to continue as members of the new community, so while I sympathise, I’m unsure about how best to take your request forward, or whether it will find support.
This issue directly impacted people’s ability to join the new community—both financially and mentally. Access to the funds that individuals worked for was blocked. People were financially handicapped to get the amount to stake in order to join. Lots of the affected people were in shock about the turn of events after working on the campaign for over 6 months and waiting for a year for payment to unlock.
There’s a genuine case to be made that this situation affected how many community members are currently in BFD. That’s the extent of damage it caused. And it’s important that we emphasize this.
Would I have joined BFD if the funds I worked hard for had been paid out? YES!. And I know others would have too. I also believe some might still join if they were able to access their funds.
While I understand the sentiments around member continuity, I believe it has no bearing on the issue at hand and it’s important we don’t try to find new justifications to withhold payment for work that has already been done.
Again, I believe paying people for work they did in accordance with the agreement that was in place will provide a positive environment for people to trust the community again. Am not sure I would agree with anyone that blames the people who were affected by this issue for not joining BFD. And using that as a justification to continue to withhold funds will only continue to perpetrate this injustice and lay a foundation where lack of trust is inherently part of this new community.
Yeah, I know you have always been in favour of the MS doing the right thing and making the payment. I have always appreciated you for that. Others affected too share the same sentiment.
The ask is for the work done and completed when we were in the previous dao. BFD is still HOLDING them. I believe this has nothing to do with joining new dao.
For the record, I have been and continue be in support of the Optimism rpgf payment.
My core belief is that the rules and expectations set at the time of the campaign are not just guidelines, but a social contract between the DAO and its contributors. Participants made decisions, invested time, and contributed value based on those published terms. To retroactively reinterpret or disregard those rules undermines both trust and accountability within our community. If we want to build a DAO culture where contributors feel secure in participating, we must honor the commitments made at the time of action-even if, in hindsight, we might wish the rules had been different or clearer.
Retroactive changes set a dangerous precedent. They risk eroding the very foundation of trust and meritocracy that we aspire to build.
Trust and justice are the pillars of every successful organization.
The handling of the previous OP campaign left much to be desired and was a disappointing experience for many of us who have long been part of the DAO. I remain hopeful that with the renewed vision and values of this new DAO, the matter will be revisited and the original commitments honored.
Thank you.
as an affected member, I am obviously in support of a proposal for this to be resolved
nevertheless, would add that joining new DAO under conditions that honest work from previous DAO being unpaid, despite all work being documented, verified and accepted, doesn’t sound as a good step for me
this issue simply undermines trust in DAO, whatever their current name is
payment conditions were unilaterally changed more than a year after the work is done, without proper explanation or discussion
yesterday it was us, tomorrow it could be any other DAO member
kindly ask Flag Keepers to try and resolve this issue for DAO to start on sound ground
pretty sure that member count will rise on a proper resolution of this issue, and DAO will have a better future
Since the aforementioned work was completed and all metrics were met and fulfilled, this problem shouldn’t have been lingering for so long. Contributors ought to be compensated for their hard work.
With that said, I’m hoping justice will be done and that accountability for fairness in this case will be taken on with the new branding and council.
Thank you to @thinkDecade to bringing this discussion to the Forum to allow for community comments.
As a member of the Flag Keepers, I want to let all of you know who have been affected with non-payment from the OP Campaign, that the Flag Keepers have been discussing the need to address this issue in public discussions, including at last week’s Community Call. The recording is here.
We ask for all the parties affected by non-payment, to continue to have patience until the Flag Keepers can regain control of the DAO’s multi-sig wallets.
Once we have control of the DAO multi-sig’s we will have these discussions in public - in the DAO’s weekly Community Calls, Governance calls and on the BFD Discord #flag-keepers channel.
I would encourage for all of you to join the Black Flag DAO Discord server at the basic level of Flag Curious (a non-monetary requirement) to give you access to these discussions, and to be notified when the Flag Keepers have access to the DAO multi-sig wallets.
